VARIETY BIKES FOR KIDS

Championed by Derryn Hinch since his 2002 radiothon, now joined by challenge patrons Lee "Hollywood" Turner and Matthew Keenan, Variety Bikes for Kids has funded over 12,000 bikes for kids in need through Variety - the Children's Charity.

Variety Bikes for Kids gives the gift of independence and joy to children who have never been fortunate enough to have a bike of their own. By taking part, by making a donation or setting a fundraising challenge in the month of June, you will be bringing freedom and happiness to a child who would otherwise go without.

CHOOSE TO GET ACTIVE - TAKE THE KM CHALLENGE!

Did you know the average distance travelled to primary school is 4km per day? That's 20km per week and 80km per month active kids who own a bike travel to get to their place of education. This year we're challenging you to take the 80km challenge and ride 80km (or as much as you can) by 30 June!

YOUR IMPACT

Our important work allows children to gain mobility and freedom,  get out and about in the community, communicate, achieve independence, increase self-esteem and support inclusion. Variety helps kids and families by providing grants, programs and scholarships. One of Variety’s longest-running programs is Variety  Bikes for Kids.

With 1 in 6 Victorian children who live in poverty in our state, simple items like bikes are out of reach for many. Whilst providing fun, freedom, independence and inclusion with their peers the physical benefits to owning a bike are also hugely important to kids.

Over 80% of kids do not meet the daily exercise recommendation of one hour a day – this is particularly high for kids living with disadvantage who may not have the same access to sport as others. Bike riding can also assist with kids mental health and learning ability, with kids who have ridden school being more focused and engaged than those who were driven.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Please donate or sign up to take the cycling challenge today!
