Variety Kids Challenge
The Variety Kids Challenge began in 2020 and fast became the coolest comp in town during COVID-19 lockdown! Legends of LEGO Masters Australia and now Melbourne Comedy Festival show ‘The Brick of Destiny’, Maddy and Jimmy, set the kids of Australia a weekly challenge which they had to build from blocks at home and submit pics to their Variety Kids Challenge Profiles. In our first year, we had dream pets, dream homes, a Variety Bash Car and even Maddy and Jimmy themselves recreated in blocks by kids from across the country!
In 2021 the Variety Kids Challenge returned with fresh themes and even more prizes on offer. Once again, the best and most creative build of the week scored some awesome prizes. We saw it all from City Skyscrapers to Space Aliens right through to Dream Castles, Heroes and Villains!
Thanks to everyone’s efforts the Variety Kids Challenge has raised over $25,000 for kids in need!
Judging the masterpieces was none other than Maddy and Jimmy from Season One of LEGO Masters Australia and Melbourne Comedy Festival’s ‘The Brick of Destiny’ show! The pair won our hearts in 2019 on LEGO Masters Australia with their colourful outfits and incredible creations.
The husband and wife duo from Melbourne were known for their vibrant and charming builds, each including a mini Maddy and Jimmy in block form. From a weight-bearing bridge, to an evil lair and an apartment-building turned-haunted-house, they’ve covered their share of challenges!
We were SUPER EXCITED to have Maddy and Jimmy on board for the second year running to not only select our winners, but offer up plenty of tips and guidance along the way!
You can follow Maddy & Jimmy on Instagram at @maddytyers and @jimmyjameseaton, check out their website (www.maddyandjimmy.com), like their Maddy and Jimmy Facebook Page or subscribe to their Youtube Channel for lots of LEGO tips, tricks and hacks (plus a little extra fun too)!
Variety – the Children’s Charity believe all kids deserve a fair go. So we help kids who are sick, disadvantaged and have special needs by delivering support in four key ways.
We grant a range of equipment – such as wheelchairs or all-abilities playgrounds - to provide practical help to kids, schools and organisations in need. We run programs to educate & empower kids in need. We give scholarships to encourage the talents of kids living with disadvantage or disability. We hold special events to bring joy & engage kids in need and their families.
