Variety Bikes for Kids

My Activity Tracking

I'm Fundraising for Variety Bikes for Kids!

COVID19 has affected us all in many ways with many changes such as the widespread adoption of virtual working becoming a permanent and positive one.  For me, surviving 6 months in lockdown was about focusing on the important things in my life – my family, my clients, my farm and riding my bike.  Unfortunately, not everyone has a bike.

1 in 6 Australian kids live below the poverty line. Now, more than ever, families are under increased strain to cover essential items, meaning more Australian kids will miss out on the freedom, joy, independence, and inclusion of owning a bike.  This has inspired me to sign up to raise money and give disadvantaged children their very first bike through the Variety Bikes for Kids program!

In January 2021, I will be celebrating a milestone birthday and my original plan was to hike to Mount Everest base camp.  Then COVID-19 happened, and I needed to adapt. COVID is not going to change my ambitions, just how I achieve them.

So what better way to celebrate my birthday than to complete an Everesting Challenge – which is to repeatedly ride a bicycle up one hill enough times to complete 8848m vertical meters, the height of Mount Everest

Please support my ride and together let’s raise enough money to help more kids experience the joys of receiving a bike at Christmas!

Over the next eight weeks I would love to hear your thoughts on:

How helping giving bikes to disadvantaged children will generate lifelong benefits?

What COVID changes will become a permanent part of your life? How have you adapted?

How do you get ready to ride a bicycle for 12-hours and climb the equivalent of 2681 storeys?

Thank you so much for your support.

Everest Milestone - I rode to Base Camp

Sunday 13th Dec
Yesterday was my first major milestone - ride to base camp 5364m.  The day went well  8hr 15min, 100km, 6600 calories and 5,518m mission accomplished.  Lots of friends and family came out to cheer me on - a massive thanks.

More importantly we have received so many generous donations and we are well on track to meet the target, right now 10 kids will have a new bike for Christmas!  Well done everyone.

A sneek peek at the preferred location

Thursday 3rd Dec
I have selected 3 location to attempt the Everest Challenge, the picture in this blog is the target one.  Its 650m long, rise 77m and I will need to ride it 115 times.  Ride plan is between 11 and 13 hours.
