Returning in 2023!

"When women come together with a collective intention, magic happens," American actress Phylicia Rashad once said.

When over 170 women gathered for the 2022 Variety Women of Melbourne event at the beautiful Life Saving Victoria "The Views" functions and events centre in Port Melbourne, this magic was tangible, indeed.

Ticket sales made it possible for Variety to grant a unique x:panda chair for Alex. The $14,000 chair can be lifted and lowered, making Alex's life safer and better in many ways. Firstly, it enables him to sit upright, for example, while Mum Jacquie feeds him and relieves her constant fear of Alex choking on his food. Secondly, Alex can now be more involved in family activities or plays with other kids. His chair's variable height enables the five-year-old to finally reach the dinner table. He can now share meals with his family, and can also be lowered to the ground to play with cousins or other kids.

Now we are excited to announce that money raised on event day went to funding a second x:panda chair, valued at $18,000, for Talitha.  11-year-old Talitha loves the circus, music and dance, and visiting the beach.  She delights in seeing her friends for playdates and lives with her mum and two younger siblings.

A big thank you from the team at Variety to the following:

  • Our wonderful host Julie Strini
