Car 3496 Millewa Minions

BELLO (Hello in Minion)

We are the Millewa Minions! Vic Variety Rookie Bash Car 3496, it consists of two farming couples Andrew and Meagan Kay and Peter and Annette Lambert. Both farming families coming from the Millewa (between Meringur and Morkalla). Ever heard of Victoria’s Most outback Pub?  Werrimull Hotel, Yep that’s our water hole… Be sure to check it out on your travels.

Why the Bash you ask?

Andrew and I have always wanted to do the bash but never signed up, (We’d had a few crappy years) until one night sitting at home all of a sudden it was plastered everywhere. We looked at our phones, looked at each other then came the TV ad. Right in that moment I said to Andrew if you don’t sign up now, we will never do it and walked away. Next thing I hear is “Guess what?”, “What?” I said and the reply echoing through the house “WE’RE DOIN IT!” Right in that moment we knew it was the right time. With Everything Annette and Peter did for our community, being farming neighbor's and good friends who we also thought could do with a break and some BASH fun they happily joined the Minion Mobile.

As farmers we rely on rain to help with the growing of our crops in order to bring in income.  Without crops to harvest we have no income. Living in the Millewa we have been heavily affected by drought, it’s been stated as the worst drought in 70 years. No crops grew, stock had to be sold as we had no feed to feed them and the slightest wind caused dust storms. Farmers were desperate to do what they could to hang on. With the Help of Annette and her line of work at Landcare and the Drought Relief group, people rallied together from all over and donated their time, Haybales for stock, care packages for families and generally a touching hand of support. Peter and Annette were badly affected by this drought but it never stopped Annette rallying for her fellow neighbor's and local farmers. What hit us the most were the lovely cards we received from kids from all over Australia. They were handwritten, some with pictures but mostly just their words to tell us to stay strong and that they were thinking of us and they hoped that rain would come for us. It was these cards, these kids, they are the reason we are doing the bash……To give back what every kid deserves - Happiness and a ray of sunshine. Our son Dawson has always said “it doesn’t have to cost anything to make a child smile” always telling a joke or acting a goat! The cards from the Aussie kids have stuck with us and now its our turn to help out and put a smile on their face.

We brought a 78’ Mercedes Benz 280 SEL, 4 door silver beast powered by BANANAS!. Throw some dancing Minions on the dash, make some minions seat covers, deck the car out with everything minion possible, add a Minion flag to the pole, deck yourself out in blue overalls and a yellow top I think we are set to go! Fundraising is going great. Thanks to Annette who set our goal of 20k and us thinking “WHOA we will never make that”!! But we have made just over that and are very pleased with our efforts.
