I'm taking part in the Variety Bash to help kids in need

G’day! We are so excited to be taking part in the 2021 Variety Bash – travelling all the way to Great Keppel Island, the long way round!

The Variety Bash is a once in a lifetime chance to experience remote and regional parts of Australia in outrageously themed classic cars, all in support of Variety – the Children’s Charity.

Throughout the event, we’ll be visiting local towns, stopping into schools and organisations to help kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs through the provision of educational, health and mobility equipment. And the giving doesn’t stop there! Variety continue to support children, families and communities throughout the year with funds raised from the Variety Bash.

Help us give Aussie kids a fair go – donate today!

Saturday 5th Jun

G’day,

It’s John Willis here, commonly known as “Bear”. I’m so excited to be taking part in the 2021 Victorian Variety Bash where we will be travelling all the way to Great Keppel Island, the long way, and the hard way!

Variety is a terrific organization set up with one goal – to help disadvantaged Aussie kids in need!

All of the cars for the bash must be at least 30 years old and must be 2 wheel drive which is quite a challenge considering we spend more time off the black top roads than on them – this year including the Birdsville Track.

The Variety Bash is a once in a lifetime chance to experience remote and regional parts of Australia in outrageously themed classic cars, all in support of Variety – the Children’s Charity.

This year the route takes us via Deniliquin, NSW, Renmark SA, Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges, Maree at the start of the Birdsville, a stopover at the famous Birdsville pub, on to Longreach in Qld home of the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre and the Qantas Founders Museum, then to Springsure in Qld to check out the Mount Zamia and the Virgin Rock that overlooks the town in the Minerva Hills National Park. We finish up on the coast at the beautiful Yeppoon and for a final fling we travel over to Great Keppel Island.

Throughout the event, we’ll be visiting local towns, stopping into schools and organisations to help kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs through the provision of educational, and mobility equipment. And the giving doesn’t stop there!

Variety continues to support children, families and communities throughout the year with funds raised from the Variety Bash. The Bashers visit needy destinations along the way spreading funds, equipment, cheer and goodwill to kids in need. There’s books for outback libraries, handicapped equipment, support for struggling communities and assistance for worthy individuals who may not be quite so lucky as the rest of us and need a little boost to help make life a little more manageable.

The Bash brings out the best in people with Lions and Rotary Clubs, Women’s Axillaries, PTA’s and even remote station owners amongst the many good natured Australians providing meals and support along the way. The moral boost to struggling townsfolk is quite amazing, not to mention the relief to local economies. The last event raised over $1.8m in total and this year we are amongst a fleet of over 130 vehicles!

This will be my 5th Variety Bash and sixth major event including a 4x4 Trek around Tasmania. I am privileged to be travelling with two rookies in my new team, Mark Van Den Ham and Mark Effern who are busily reconstructing a 1970 Holden HT station wagon that was very much the worse for wear. It’s now almost back together and is already running with lots of help from our friends and supporters.

Help us give Aussie kids a fair go in life by supporting our Variety Bash Car number 186! We have any number of options available for sponsorship from small financial donations right through to major naming rights so we can tailor a promotional package to suit your budget. Best of all any donation over $2 is fully tax deductible. You will receive an instant receipt from Variety - the Children's Charity
