What are the ways I can volunteer with Variety?
In Victoria, the majority of our volunteer roles are event-based. We hold a number of Corporate and Kids’ events throughout the year, and we’re always on the lookout for friendly faces to join us and help everything run smoothly. We also require help with tin-rattling at public events from time to time, and on rare occasions we’ll put the call-out for help around the office with everything from warehouse clean-ups, to administration tasks.
How do I register to become a volunteer with Variety in Victoria?
We love to have new volunteers join the Variety team. To get involved, please apply for a position on our portal by clicking here.
Do I need to have any kind of checks before I'm able to volunteer?
It is the policy of Variety - the Children's Charity of Victoria that all volunteers, regardless of the activity in which they are engaged, must hold a valid Victorian Working With Children Check (WWCC). Those with a VIT Permit as well as officers of the Victorian Police Force and Australian Federal Police are exempt from this requirement.

Can you tell me more about the Working With Children Check?
To apply for a free Volunteer WWCC, you must fill in the online application form on the Working with Children Check website. You will also need to verify your identity, either online or at a post office.
After completing the form, you will receive an email with instructions on how to finalise your application at a post office. A passport photo is required for your application and this will be taken at the post office free of charge.
Once submitted, it may take up to six weeks to receive your WWCC card by mail. Please plan ahead, as it is the policy of Variety - the Children's Charity of Victoria that all volunteers hold a valid WWCC card and we cannot accept application receipts.
However, after lodging your application at Australia Post, you’ll receive an approval notification from the Department of Justice via email, which typically takes around two weeks. In some cases, we may allow you to volunteer with a printed copy of this email and a valid Photo ID. Please check with the relevant Variety team member.
I can't fulfil my volunteer role, what do I do?

What if I spoke to someone at Variety who said they would manually register me?
How will I find out where to meet, what time to arrive, etc.?
We are dedicated to the safety and well-being of children and young people.
