Where does the money go?
Money raised through the Makeup Free Day Campaign goes towards helping kids in need to live, laugh and learn through Variety – the Children’s Charity. Variety provide life-changing assistance through the provision of grants for tangible equipment and technology, scholarships to nurture the talents of children in need, offer programs to enable kids to keep up with their mates in the classroom and host events for families doing it tough to have fun and create unforgettable memories in inclusive spaces.
How has COVID-19 affected Variety - the Children's Charity?
2020 started with the passionate team of staff and volunteers at Variety – the Children’s Charity doing what we do best - responding to kids and families in need.
We rallied to support fire effected communities, granted equipment and resources for kids across Victoria and planned to deliver events and fundraising activities throughout the year to ensure all kids have a fair go in life.
We all know what happened next… COVID-19 and the associated government restrictions changed our lives.
Like many organisations seeking to keep people well, flatten the curve and comply with government requirements, Variety’s core activity of running events and fundraising to support children has been put on pause, significantly reducing our income. At the same time we saw a surge in demand for equipment and assistance from families.
So that’s why we decided to get creative and launch new online initiatives like Makeup Free Day to continue our work to help kids in need. As well as Makeup Free Day, we ran a digital crisis campaign to fund devices for children in need of technology to learn from home, we put the FUN in fundraising with our Variety Kids Challenge, and also launched our annual Bikes for Kids Campaign with an online twist.
It’s been difficult, but what we know is that our kids and families need us more than ever. We will continue to do all that’s in our power to help them, but none of it would be possible without generous supporters like you. So THANK YOU! We hope to see you embracing your natural face on Friday 3 July.
